Marvin Gaye – I Heard it Through the Grapevine (plus acapella)

I have no idea why I haven’t posted this as an earworm before. Marvin, sweet Marvin.

And as a bonus, here’s the acapella version. One word – Shivers.

Dave Frishberg – Can’t Take You Nowhere

So sad to see you must be on your way!
What a pity to say: ‘So Long!’

Dexy’s Midnight Runners – Jackie Wilson Said

Toodle langa langa toodle langa langa

Crowded House – Don’t Dream It’s Over

I don’t particularly love this song, but it is a perfect pop ballad, very catchy. And it has taken up residence in my brain.

Caetano Veloso – Nothing but Flowers

Number three in my Joni Mitchell domino earworm. This was written by David Byrne as a response to Big Yellow Taxi. I love Caetano Veloso’s interpretation. Joyous and sweet.

Madeleine Peyroux featuring k.d. lang – River

Unseasonal, but it’s in my head, a Joni Mitchell Domino effect.

Joni Mitchell – Big Yellow Taxi

Don’t it always seem to go, that you don’t know what you’ve got til it’s gone.

The Elgins – Heaven Must Have Sent You

Sweet (Northern) Soul Music. Happy Saturday, y’all!

Amy Winehouse – Love is a Losing Game

Last night I went to see Asif Kapadia’s excellent documentary Amy. I left the cinema saddened by the cult of “celebrity culture” and how it can so easily aid self destruction.

This song is rattling round my brain this morning, and it’s so hard to listen to.
