Prince – The Ballad of Dorothy Parker

There are so many things I love about this song. The woozy psychedelic phasing, the story, the funky 80s yet timeless groove, the reference to Joni Mitchell, the sound effects, the weird response BVs, the fact that he mentions a fruit cocktail in a sexy voice, and it’s been stuck in my head for weeks.

Michael Kiwanuka – You Ain’t The Problem

I’ve always had a soft spot for psychedelic soul and this hits the spot very nicely. I have been singing the la la la la bits to myself all week!

(and some lovely joyous natural dancing in the video)

Billie Holiday – Don’t Explain

Last night, I saw David McAlmont perform this song. Sublime, heartbreaking jazz. And here’s a live video of Billie. Raw stuff.
